Staying Healthy Through the Holidays

As the year is coming to an end and the holiday season is quickly approaching, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the hustle of it all. As a company, we are busy as ever and our duties as healthcare providers never slow down, however it’s equally important to enjoy this season by prioritizing health and wellbeing in our personal lives. Here are a few helpful reminders to help make the best of this season!

1. Stay well this winter: Along with the joy of the holidays comes the dreaded cold & flu season… practice good hygiene, boost your immune system with a balanced diet and regular exercise, and stay up to date on vaccines.

2. Get enough sleep: We all know it but few of us actually do it. Between work, travel, shopping, parties, and making time for family and friends, sleep during this time of year tends to fall off the list of priorities. 7-8 hours of restful sleep is crucial for stress management, mood, daily energy levels and overall wellbeing. Prioritize quality sleep by sticking to a regular sleep schedule, managing stress levels, limiting caffeine and alcohol intake, and decreasing screen time before bed.

3. Make time for movement: Indulging a bit more this time of year is part of the joy- enjoy the few extra cookies but also make time for daily exercise. Whether it’s a walk on your lunch break or a quick Youtube workout in your living room, we can all take 20-30 minutes a day to get in some sort of exercise. Regular exercise will help with stress management, sleep, mood and overall health!

4. Everything in moderation: Have the desserts, the wine, all the festive treats that only come out this time of year, however remember that more is not always better. Limit excessive food and alcohol intake, get in some fruits & vegetables and be mindful of serving sizes in order to maintain a balanced and healthy diet through the holidays.

5. Manage stress: As fun as it can be, this time of year inevitably comes with some amount of stress. Whether it be financial stress, family dynamics, traveling, or managing work-life balance, we all experience a bit of extra stress in December. Spend a little time each day managing it- get fresh air, read a book, meditate, talk to a friend, set your boundaries, and exercise regularly to clear your mind this season.

Take care of yourselves and have a happy, healthy holiday season!
