Physician Assistant – Spine Division

Job Description

Provides a range of primary clinical services and training appropriate to ensure quality performance of patient activities while under the overall direction of a clinic physician. Primary activities include: surgical assists, hospital rounding, in office procedures, patient evaluation, physical examinations, ordering and administering laboratory tests, treatment procedures and follow-up for a large, fast-paced orthopedic and physical therapy practice.

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of Physician Assistant Program accredited by the AMA and CAAHEP
  • Board certified by NCCPA and awarded PA-C designation
  • Holds current state license in Rhode Island
  • Holds controlled substance registration numbers for Rhode Island
  • Must be eligible for obtaining privileges in all hospitals and facilities affiliated with OrthoRI physician practice
  • Previous experience and skills in safety, records and reporting, creating positive work relationships, communication, and working in emergency conditions.
  • Must be eligible for insurance credentialing with all companies affiliated with OrthoRI.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to conduct physical exams, assess health status, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and treat illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds. Consult with physician as needed and refer to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
  • Knowledge of patient assessment techniques including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.
  • Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
  • Ability to educate patients and/or families and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.

Job Qualifications:

  • Requires full range of motion, shifting and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Required extensive standing and walking for long periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires normal vision and hearing.
  • Requires exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a medical environment.
  • Requires working under stressful medical and emergency conditions and potentially irregular work hours.
  • Requires the operation of office equipment.
