Ortho Rhode Island and the South County YMCA Team Up to Improve Spine Health

Ortho Rhode Island is partnering with the South County YMCA to offer the Aquatics Spinal Wellness Program, a pool exercise program designed specifically for individuals with back disorders emphasizing neutral spine techniques.

The program, which is free to YMCA members, has already generated strong interest. The first round of classes, which kicked off on Monday, December 2nd, is already full, but the YMCA is already working to provide more opportunities for new participants.

Exercising in water allows participants to escape the limitations of gravity, giving them the ability to do more physical activity in the pool than they can on land. The program can help those with back conditions improve their balance, strength, endurance, range of motion, and circulation. But the benefits aren’t just physical – aquatics can help participants improve their self-esteem and quality of life, as well, by introducing more healthy activity to their daily lives.
