Ortho Rhode Island Talks Arthritis with Local Residents

Finding reliable information about arthritis can be challenging – that’s why Ortho Rhode Island is bringing its expertise to patients. Casey Ashby, OTR/L and Ashley Weber, COTA will host “Living with Arthritis”, an informative discussion with Rhode Islanders at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 4th at the North Kingstown Senior Center.

The hour-long discussion will cover a broad range of arthritis topics, including different types of the disease, their causes and treatment options, and how the joints change as we age. Ashby and Weber will touch on many of the steps people living with arthritis can take to improve their lives: pain management, exercise, lifestyle adaptations, and using good body mechanics during activities of daily living.

Ashby and Weber work at Ortho Rhode Island’s Warwick office, and focus on helping patients get back to the activities that matter most to them. “Arthritis is a degenerative disease in which symptoms come on slowly,” Ashby has said of the disease, which affects more than 54 million Americans, according to the CDC.

“It can be very frustrating to lose the ability to do simple things, such as button your shirt.” Ortho Rhode Island’s goal, she says, is “to help people understand their pain and take steps back to independence with occupational therapy strategies.”

“Living with Arthritis” is part of a series of discussions hosted by Ortho Rhode Island, which also includes “Aging in Place” to be held in December, and “Healthy Gardening” slated for April. For more information about attending, please call 401-268-1596
