Ortho RI Research Earns Award at Orthopedics Symposium

Ortho Rhode Island’s commitment to forward-thinking orthopedics isn’t just benefiting Rhode Islanders – it’s fueling research that could help patients around the world.

In January Ortho Rhode Island’s research took center stage at the 8th Annual Winter Technology & Innovation in Orthopedics Symposium in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Ortho Rhode Island Researcher Kevin Marchand, a third-year medical student at Temple University, presented Excellent Outcomes in Obese Patients: An Analysis of 1,564 Cementless Robotic-assisted TKA Cases, which earned the Residents and Fellows Award for being the most clinically significant research on offer.

The award-winning research was one of four abstracts shared by Ortho Rhode Island at the symposium, which also included work by Research Manager Kelly Taylor, RN, Robert Marchand, MD, and Tanner McClure, DO, Ortho Rhode Island’s first Adult Reconstruction Fellow.

The Adult Reconstruction Fellowship, along with the research presented at the symposium, are key initiatives of the Ortho RI Research Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to orthopedic research and education efforts that are building a brighter, healthier, and more active future for patients.

The January symposium, hosted by HSS Florida, in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Florida, Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute, and the University of Miami Health System, is a gathering of world-renowned orthopedic experts. It marked the first of several meetings Ortho Rhode Island researchers will attend in 2024, including the Northeast Arthroplasty Conference and the Corin Fellows Course.
