Sport-specific Rehab

Sport specific rehab is the process of developing movements, performance, and skills for a specific activity. Sport specific training in rehab focuses on improving strength, mobility, flexibility, balance, agility, and stamina. The therapists at Ortho Rhode Island are very experienced in working with athletes of all ages and abilities. An “athlete” can be a collegiate football player, recreational golfer, competitive runner, a dancer, or a “weekend warrior.” The therapists at Ortho Rhode Island appreciate the process and delicate balance of returning an athlete to sport and will work with the patient/athlete to set goals that are specific to the skillset their sport requires.

Components of sport specific rehab include:

  • Mobility, flexibility
  • Progressive strengthening exercises
  • Balance and proprioception activities
  • Muscular endurance training
  • Neuromuscular re-education

Injury prevention programs:

  • Individualized goal setting
  • Transitioning to a sport performance professional when appropriate
  • Communication with athletic trainer/coach as needed for guidance with return to sport
