Charitable Contributions Policy

We heal more than bones and joints.

Ortho Rhode Island is committed to strengthening communities too, with charitable contributions and sponsorships in the cities and towns we serve, for the causes our patients care about. Through volunteerism, financial resources, and collaborations, we aim to make our communities better places to live and work.

Guidelines
The focus of our philanthropy will be health-related, fitness, and youth sports organizations. Ortho Rhode Island may also contribute to and/or encourage employee involvement with community and civic programs surrounding:

  • Education programs
  • Economic development activities
  • Community civic needs such as food pantries
  • Conservation and environmental programs
  • Arts, culture and humanities programs

In addition, any group requesting support must:

  • Be a certified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, or 501(c)(6) business league
  • Create positive visibility and support ORI’s commitment to health and wellness
  • Be located within Rhode Island

Ortho Rhode Island will not contribute to:

  • Individuals raising funds for personal activities
  • Political organizations or candidates for office
  • Organizations based on, supported by, or affiliated with a religion or a religious group
  • Requests that are harmful or pose a potential conflict of interest
  • Organizations that discriminate based on religion, age, color, sex, disability, national origin, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation, or veteran status
  • Events/activities that have already occurred
  • Activities that do not advance the public image or corporate purpose of ORI

Note: Funding in prior years does not guarantee continued funding in any subsequent year.

Deadlines
To allow time to process and plan for charitable giving for the upcoming calendar year, we ask that all requests for contributions more than $1,000.00 be filed with the Ortho Rhode Island Community Affairs Office during our official submission period between July 1 and December 18 of the current year. Final approval on all charitable contributions greater than $1,000.00 for the upcoming calendar year will be decided no later than February 1 of that year.

Requests for contributions of $1,000.00 or less may be submitted for approval year-round to the Ortho Rhode Island location whose support you’re seeking.

Approval or denial of any request is not a judgement on the merit of the organization or event. Requests may be denied due to budget constraints or prior commitments.
