Dr. Anthony Mechrefe Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award by Arthritis Foundation

On Friday, October 17, Dr. Anthony Mechrefe, foot and ankle surgeon at Ortho Rhode Island, was recognized by the Arthritis Foundation RI with the Dr. Hal Horwitz Lifetime Achievement Award for Physician’s Excellence at the 2025 Commitment to a Cure presented by Amgen – Rhode Island Gala at the Graduate Providence.

The award was presented by Dr. Mechrefe's colleague, Dr. Michael Bradley, Chief Medical Officer at Ortho Rhode Island, in honor of the lifetime commitment Dr. Mechrefe has demonstrated in patient care, research, and innovation. A specialist in complex foot and ankle reconstructions, Dr. Mechrefe is also Director of Foot and Ankle Surgery at Kent Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor at Brown University. He has a strong background in trauma, reconstruction, and total ankle replacement surgery.

“Arthritis is the No. 1 cause of disability in the U.S., impacting over 60 million Americans – including more than 202,000 Rhode Islanders,” said Julia Moore, Executive Director for Rhode Island and Northern New England at the Arthritis Foundation. “Events like Commitment to a Cure are vital in driving progress. We’re incredibly grateful for the community’s support and the opportunity to honor these exceptional physicians.”

Funds raised at the Gala support critical arthritis research, educational resources, and patient support services that directly benefit individuals and families in Rhode Island and beyond.
