Ortho RI Physicians Receive Award from
Athletic Trainers’ Association in Consecutive Years

Ortho Rhode Island’s longstanding commitment to keeping their community healthy is adding up to a great relationship with local trainers. For two straight years, Ortho Rhode Island physicians have been honored with the Frank Murgo Service Award by the Rhode Island Athletic Trainers’ Association, or RIATA for short.

This year’s award, which is named in honor of the late Frank Murgo, a longtime trainer, teacher, and coach at Barrington High School, was presented to Dr. Keith Monchik, in recognition of his educational efforts and dedicated service to athletes and athletic trainers in Rhode Island. Dr. Monchik is board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Ortho Rhode Island, with a subspecialty certification in sports medicine.

And in 2021, the honor was presented via Zoom to Dr. Charlotte Moriarty, a primary care sports medicine physician who was nominated for the award by the athletic trainer at North Kingstown High School, where she serves as team physician.

The outstanding contributions of Drs. Monchik and Moriarty are part of the work by Ortho Rhode Island’s sports medicine team, including physical therapists and athletic trainers, to keep young athletes healthy. Ortho Rhode Island is also proud to be the exclusive Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Partner of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League.
