Hand Anatomy

Your hands and wrists contain a total of 54 bones, allowing for a broad range of motion – and opportunities for injuries and ailments. Whether chronic or acute, ailments that inhibit the use of a hand or wrist can make everyday activities difficult. Our orthopedic specialists have advanced training and extensive clinical knowledge that can help restore function through a variety of treatments specific to your diagnosis.

Ortho Rhode Island’s comprehensive care includes specialized rehabilitative treatment for patients with hand and wrist dysfunctions. We offer a team of Certified Hand Therapists (CHTs) and Occupational Therapists (OTs) who provide one-on-one, individualized care. Their goal is to assist the patient in regaining maximal use of the hand or arm while returning them as quickly as possible to their daily activity. Learn more about our specialized hand and wrist therapy team.

Our Approach

Our hand and wrist specialists and CHTs treat more than just your symptoms – we treat you as a person. As part of our comprehensive care, we strive to understand how your condition impacts your quality of life, and prioritize restoring function so you can return to the everyday activities most important to you. By focusing on your needs, we collaborate to create a care plan tailored to your lifestyle and treatment goals.

We believe in individualized care driven by your unique diagnosis, beginning with minimally invasive treatment options like rest, pain medication, occupational hand and wrist therapy, and possibly an injection, and ranging to surgical intervention if your condition doesn’t respond to non-operative measures. This conservative approach helps ensure your quality of life is always at the center of care.

We believe the marriage of technology and medicine leads to safer, more effective treatment for healthier, happier patients. As a leader in emerging orthopedic technology, Ortho Rhode Island is pioneering state-of-the-art orthopedic tools and techniques:
